    Welcome to my website.

I am a writer of historical fiction focusing on ancient Rome. As a classicist, I believe we have a duty to make the ancient world engaging and relevant to the modern day. My work explores the political and social complexities of the late Roman Republic, drawing connections between the past and the present. Understanding history means recognising the forces that continue to shape our world. The struggles and ambitions of the past still play out in different forms today.

My novel, No Fire When Tiber Freezes, is a political thriller set in 146 BCE, dealing with corruption, intrigue, and murder in the wake of Rome’s victories in Greece and Carthage. It examines power, deception, and the struggles of ordinary people caught in the tides of history. Today’s world echoes the late Roman Republic, with its unstable political climate, rampant populism, and widening gulf between rich and poor.
